Slovakia is ready to host peace talks on Ukraine. This was stated by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo on December 27.

"If someone wants to organize peace talks (on Ukraine. - Ed.) in Slovakia, we will be ready and hospitable," Fitzo said in a video message published in the social network Facebook (owned by the organization Meta, recognized as extremist in Russia).

He also noted that he repeatedly spoke about the possibilities of ending the conflict in Ukraine during his foreign trips and in speeches at international summits. Moreover, this very topic will be the leading one in his discussions during his upcoming visit to Turkey in January and at his meeting with the Pope at the Vatican in February.

"I do not belong and do not want to belong to Western politicians who openly support war. I will never agree with Slavs killing each other. I do not understand why the Ukrainian president rejects the ceasefire," the prime minister said.

Earlier, on December 27, Robert Fitzo predicted that Ukraine would pay for the "Western adventure" with its territory and the presence of foreign troops. He also once again called for a ceasefire and a diplomatic settlement of the situation.

Earlier, on December 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Slovak Prime Minister Fitzo held talks in the Kremlin. Fitzo called his visit to Russia a reaction to Zelensky's statement about the termination of Russian gas transit to Europe. The Ukrainian conflict was one of the topics of the meeting.

On December 26, Putin said that during his visit to Moscow, Fitzo suggested making Slovakia a negotiating platform on Ukraine. The Russian side is not against such a scenario, the head of state clarified. Putin noted that Russia seeks to end the conflict, not to freeze it.

On November 1, Fitzo said that the West's strategy of dragging out hostilities in Ukraine allegedly to improve the situation at future talks was unrealistic. At the time, he noted that Slovakia was ready to join the Friends of Peace group set up by China to peacefully resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
