Ukraine will pay for the "Western adventure" with the territory of its country and the presence of foreign troops. This was stated by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo on 27 December.

He said that he did not understand why Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (whose term of office expired on May 20) refused to reject a cease-fire and peace talks. The Slovak prime minister said he believes this is bringing the country closer to catastrophe.

"Ukraine's negotiating position is deteriorating every day, and the country will pay a huge price for this Western adventure in the form of loss of territory and the presence of foreign troops," Fitzo said in a video message published in the social network Facebook (owned by the organization Meta, recognized as extremist in Russia).

He also once again called for a ceasefire and a diplomatic settlement of the situation.

In addition, in the video message, Fitzo said that Slovakia is ready to act as a platform for negotiations on the settlement of the conflict. In addition, the Slovak Prime Minister promised Kiev a response to the refusal to supply Russian gas through the country to Europe.

Earlier, on December 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Slovak Prime Minister held talks in the Kremlin. Fitzo described his visit to Russia as a reaction to Zelensky's statement about stopping the transit of Russian gas to Europe. The Ukrainian conflict was one of the topics of the meeting.

On December 26, Putin said that during his visit to Moscow, Fitzo suggested making Slovakia a negotiating platform on Ukraine. The Russian side is not against such a scenario, the head of state clarified. Putin noted that Russia seeks to end the conflict, not to freeze it.

On November 1, Fitzo said that the West's strategy of dragging out hostilities in Ukraine allegedly to improve the situation at future talks was unrealistic. At the time, he noted that Slovakia was ready to join the Friends of Peace group set up by China to peacefully resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
