The U.S. reported record population growth in 23 years


The U.S. population in 2024 increased by almost 1%, which is the maximum increase in the last 23 years. This was reported on December 27 by "Interfax" with reference to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The number of residents of the United States this year exceeded 340 million people, the number of newborns exceeded the number of deaths by almost 519 thousand.
The most significant rate of population growth was indicated in the District of Columbia - 2.2%.
The largest growth was found in the southern states - 1.8 million people. In Texas, the population grew by about 563 thousand people, and in Florida - by 467 thousand people.
In Mississippi, Vermont and West Virginia, on the contrary, the population decreased.
Earlier, on December 25, 12 European Union (EU) countries reached ultra-low birth rates. Birth rates in Estonia, Austria, Spain, Greece and Italy also dropped. The reason for the ultra-low rates was identified as the rise in inflation, as well as the fear of losing a job.
