The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed to introduce mandatory certification of car tires in Russia in order for tire manufacturers to comply with the requirements for the maximum permissible level of hazardous substances in their composition. A draft government decree is available to Izvestia.

The Technical Regulations of the Customs Union "On the Safety of Wheeled Vehicles (TR TS 018/2011)" set requirements for product safety, but there are no mandatory requirements for tires in terms of their environmental friendliness in terms of carcinogenic substances, in particular, Bay protons in the tire up to 0.25%. At the same time, the characteristics declared by foreign manufacturers often do not correspond to the real ones, according to the explanatory note to the draft decree.

The authors of the resolution noted that the current regulatory legal acts of the Russian Federation do not establish restrictions on the content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the tire tread, which are carcinogenic, mutagenic and reproductively toxic substances.

At the same time, according to testing of tire product samples, 11% of domestic tires and 40% of imported tires do not meet the requirements of GOST R 51893-2024 ("Pneumatic tires. General technical safety requirements"). 89% of domestic tires comply with GOST and are carcinogenically safe.

"Given that the products carry an increased risk to the health and life of consumers, it is advisable to introduce confirmation of compliance of these products with the established requirements in terms of the content in tires bay protons not more than 0.25% in the form of mandatory certification", - stated in the document.

November 21 it became known that the tire plant Gislaved in Ulyanovsk (former Bridgestone) resumed production, the restart of the site began with the production of a new summer model, which will be produced under the brand Cordiant. In 2025, the range of the plant is planned to expand including models of the premium brand Gislaved. The start of winter tire production is scheduled for the first half of 2025.
