Austria reported weapons and ammunition missing from the country's army

Weapons and ammunition have started disappearing in the Austrian army due to negligence of servicemen and increased incidents of theft. This was reported on December 27 by the portal Puls24 with reference to the data of the head of the country's Defense Ministry Claudia Tanner.
According to him, two Austrian-made StG77 assault rifles and an LP57 pistol with flares were stolen in the town of Ens in the north of the country. The suspects were charged with the theft, however, only one of the items was recovered.
It was also noted that six rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition were found in the home of a soldier in July. According to the country's Defense Ministry, most of the missing items were the result of negligence.
Earlier, on January 29, five Ukrainian officials were arrested on charges of stealing almost $40m allocated for the purchase of ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The funds were intended for the purchase of 100,000 mortar shells. However, the ammunition was never delivered and instead the funds were transferred to accounts belonging to representatives of the Defense Ministry.
