The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is ready to impose anti-Russian sanctions even to the detriment of Europeans. This was reported on December 27 by Tuomas Malinen, a professor at the University of Helsinki, on his page in the social network X (former Twitter)

"More problems, but wait. It is more important to have <conflict> with Russia than to serve the Europeans. Right, von der Leyen?" - Malinen wrote.

So he commented on the news about the termination of Russian gas transit through Ukraine from January 1, 2025.

Earlier, on December 16, the EU foreign ministers finally approved the 15th package of economic and individual sanctions against Russia. It is noted that the list of sanctions includes 54 individuals and 30 organizations. Also, 52 vessels were added to the list, which are subject to a ban on access to the port and a ban on the provision of a wide range of services related to maritime transport.

On December 31, the transit contract for pumping gas from Russia through Ukraine expires. The Russian leadership has repeatedly drawn attention to the fact that the country has not refused transit supplies to Europe, but European countries have to negotiate with Kiev to extend them.
