Kiev removed the names of Moscow and Minsk from the Alley of Hero-Cities

In Kiev, the names of Moscow and Minsk, as well as the images of Soviet medals "Gold Star" on the Alley of Hero-Cities were dismantled. This was reported by the Ukrainian news and analysis website Korrespondent on December 27.
The initiator of the measure was the National Museum of the history of Ukraine in the Second world war.
"Today the Museum of the war undertook <...> the dismantling of the letters with which the names of the cities [Moscow and Minsk] and images of the Soviet medals "Gold Star" on the Alley of Hero Cities are laid out," - reported in the press service of the Museum.
According to the institution, experts have concluded that it is necessary to remove and restore the details of the cultural object.
Earlier, on December 24, the authorities of the city of Uman in Cherkasy region decided to hand over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) the Soviet tank T-34. A similar decision concerned the cannons, which were monuments.
Before that, on December 15, former co-chairman of the Ukrainian party Opposition Platform - For Life, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yuriy Boyko said that more and more Ukrainian citizens support those who oppose the demolition of monuments and renaming of cities.
The policy of so-called decolonization was a continuation of decommunization in Ukraine, which began to be carried out in 2015 within the framework of the law "On Condemnation of Communist and Nazi Regimes". It prescribes demolishing monuments, dismantling memorial plaques, and renaming all topographical objects whose names are associated with the USSR or Russia. This policy became especially acute after the start of the Russian Federation's special operation to defend Donbass in February 2022.
