Charlot singer sentenced to 5.5 years for rehabilitating Nazism

On Friday, December 27, a court in Samara sentenced singer Eduard Charlot (included in the Russian Federation in the list of extremists and terrorists) to five and a half years in a penal colony on charges of rehabilitation of Nazism. This is reported by the correspondent of "Izvestia" from the courtroom.
Charlot is forbidden to use the Internet for four years.
The court also dismissed the criminal case on theft or damage of documents (Article 325 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The state prosecution asked to imprison Charlot for seven years and five months in a general regime colony.
During the hearing, the singer asked for forgiveness from the inhabitants of Russia.
On November 22, 2023, Charlot was detained at Pulkovo airport, where he flew from Yerevan. The artist was escorted to Samara. On November 30, three criminal cases were opened against him - two episodes on the rehabilitation of Nazism (part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and one on insulting the feelings of believers (Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The reason for Charlot's arrest were insulting videos that he posted on Instagram (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia).
On July 23 of this year, singer Charlot was put on the list of terrorists and extremists.
