Ukraine says people believe in Trump's ability to end conflict

Almost half of the Ukrainian population believes that the victory of Republican Donald Trump in the US presidential election will help to end the armed conflict in Ukraine faster. This was reported by the Ukrainian newspaper European Pravda on 27 December, citing data from a survey conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KMIS).
Residents of the country who participated in the survey from December 2 to 17 were asked whether Trump's victory brings peace in Ukraine closer or farther away. Almost half of the respondents (45%) answered unequivocally in the affirmative, 15% of respondents think that the world is getting much closer, and the remaining 30% said that the world is getting only a little closer.
The world is becoming more distant was stated by 14% of respondents. The remaining 40% either believe that nothing will change or could not decide on their opinion.
Also, according to KMIS, 7% of respondents are convinced that the achieved peace can be "completely fair for Ukraine" and only 11% have the opinion that the peace will be "completely unfair for Ukraine".
Earlier on December 27, The Washington Post reported that soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) hope for a truce with Russia in 2025. In particular, soldiers of the 33rd mechanized brigade of the AFU indicated that they would welcome such news, but are skeptical that it will come soon. To top it all off, some Ukrainian soldiers expressed fears that the U.S. would end its critical arms support if Kiev did not agree to territorial concessions.
Before that, on December 24, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said that he did not want a repeat of the situation with the Minsk agreements, but wanted a just, sustainable and secure peace. In the Rada, commenting on these words, said that this is bad news for the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired).
At the same time, the Kremlin's official representative, Dmitriy Peskov, said that there was no movement towards openness to negotiations on the part of Ukraine. He specified that Russia was open for the settlement of the situation, but Kiev did not demonstrate its readiness.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
