The Arkhangelsk nuclear-powered submarine cruiser of project 885M Yasen-M has joined the Russian Navy (Navy). This was announced by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 27.

The submarine handover ceremony took place at the Sevmash plant of the United Shipbuilding Corporation.

"The event was held under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseyev," the ministry said.

During the ceremony, the Navy chief handed the St. Andrew's flag to the submarine commander Captain First Rank Alexander Gladkov, which was raised on the flagpole of the nuclear-powered submarine cruiser Arkhangelsk.

Earlier, on December 21, it was reported that the Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine had completed all tests. The program was carried out in accordance with the schedules that were agreed with the RF Ministry of Defense.

A day earlier, Russian Navy Chief Moiseyev reported that the nuclear submarines Knyaz Pozharsky and Arkhangelsk will be handed over to the Navy soon. At the same time, he specified that the need to have such vessels in the fleet is dictated by the need for effective and modern weapons, which are carried by strategic and multipurpose submarines.

In addition, on December 8, it became known that Western countries in vain underestimate the submarines of Project 885M, as they are able to cover long distances while remaining completely invisible. They can carry hypersonic Zirkon cruise missiles, which are capable of overcoming any missile defense system (BMD) and inflicting "almost biblical-level destruction."
