Assigning the Moscow Gubernsky Theater the status of a federal theater will allow to update the repertoire and improve the skills of artists and administrative staff. Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia in an interview on December 27.

She noted that such a step is important for the development of the institution and allows to implement projects to preserve and protect the artistic heritage.

"In addition, the change of status also means an increase in the growth of professional skills of both artists and administrative staff. For the theater, it means enrichment of its artistic life, renewal of its repertoire and, in general, broadening of horizons for activity. We are very happy to join the Moscow Gubernsky Theater to the big federal family," the minister said.

Lyubimova added that in the current theater season MGT presented four premieres, including "Captain's Daughter" directed by the theater's director Sergei Bezrukov. The theater will also continue to host the Great Children's Festival, which is held every year.
