Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), whose Baku-Grozny plane crashed in Kazakhstan's Aktau, will suspend flights from Baku to Sochi, Volgograd, Ufa, Samara, Grozny, Mineralnye Vody and Makhachkala from December 28. The airline announced this on December 27, its message was quoted by Azerbaijan's Azeri-Press Agency(APA).

AZAL explained that the decision was made for security reasons. Passengers who purchased tickets to these destinations will be able to issue refunds or change tickets.

The airline will continue flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Astrakhan and Novosibirsk.

Later it became known that flights will also be suspended to Vladikavkaz, Nizhny Novgorod and Saratov.

Earlier in the day, AZAL airplane flying to Mineralnye Vody returned to Baku airport after receiving a message about the closure of airspace over Makhachkala. The aircraft landed safely in Baku at 10:13 (09:13 Moscow time).

A passenger plane of AZAL Airlines on the Baku-Grozny route crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau on December 25. After the crash, the plane caught fire. Preliminary, the cause of the fall of the airplane could be a collision with a flock of birds. After the crash, a criminal case was opened. AZAL suspended flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala until the investigation is completed.

The list published by AZAL shows that 62 passengers and five crew members were on board, 38 people died. In addition, seven Russians died in the crash , while nine survived, they were hospitalized. Later, a special airplane of the Russian Emergencies Ministry delivered the Russians to Moscow.

The head of the Russian Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko said on December 26 that four Russian citizens injured in the plane crash were connected to artificial lung ventilation (ALV) systems. Of the nine surviving Russians, two are in extremely serious condition, six are in moderate condition and one patient is light.
