The State Duma in 2025 plans to consider the issue of excessive workload of schoolchildren, who on average spend 8-10 hours a day studying. This was announced by the speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin on December 27.

"In the comments that you (citizens. - Ed.) left more than 10 thousand, more than 50% confirmed the excessive load on schoolchildren," he wrote in his Telegram-channel.

Among the main reasons for considering the issue of heavy load, he singled out complex homework and its volume, overloaded schedule and a large number of subjects studied, extracurricular activities, six-day school week and training in the second shift.

Volodin noted that the government realizes the need to revise the teaching load in schools.

"It is important that the child, receiving knowledge, was healthy," he concluded.

Before that, on December 1, the first deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Education Yana Lantratova ("Fair Russia - For Truth") proposed to reduce the load on schoolchildren without compromising the quality of knowledge by reducing the number of lessons per day.

On November 19, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that improving the quality of education in the country and reducing the burden on teachers remain among the main tasks.
