MCC trains will run until 3 a.m. on New Year's Eve and Christmas Day

The operating time of the Moscow Central Diameters will be extended on New Year's and Christmas nights. Trains will run for up to 3 hours, as reported in the telegram channel of the capital's Deptrans.
On the eve of the holidays, four "Ivolga" trains with festive decorations of the salon went out on the MCD, and on the third diameter for the first time held a flash mob of Santa Clauses.
In 2024, the Moscow Central Diameters celebrated 5 years of operation. During this time 1 billion trips were made along them. Every day more than 1.4 million passengers use the MCC. According to Konstantin Trofimenko, Director of the Smart City Research Center at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, the launch of the diameters made a significant contribution to the development of a unified transport framework of the capital.
"This is a global trend - to use for passenger transportation the railroads passing through the city, which were originally built with the aim of freight logistics and supply of enterprises. Moscow is not lagging behind this trend. In general, for such a huge megalopolis the use of trains in suburban-city communication is a great help", - says the expert.
Today the MCD network occupies more than 300 km of railroads. A total of 137 stations are located on all four lines. One of the main results achieved with the opening of the diameters is a significant unloading of the subway.
"Previously, electric trains were actually a means of transporting a very large number of people to the final metro station. There everyone transferred, creating a huge load on the entrance. With the launch of the diameters, the load became more even. However, now the passenger flow of the MCC is also increasing due to motorists and ground transportation passengers, who also transfer to trains", - explains Konstantin Trofimenko.
Diameters pass through 47 districts of the capital. The first one connects Lobnya and Odintsovo, the second one - Nakhabino and Podolsk, the third one - Zelenograd and Ramenskoye, and the fourth one - Aprelevka and Zheleznodorozhnaya. Improved transport accessibility has a positive effect on urban planning and development of territories.
"As recently as 15 years ago, territories along railroads were considered less attractive. With the advent of the MCD, this has changed thanks to the new stations. The market has reacted accordingly - the cost per square meter of housing, retail space, business facilities has increased. This, of course, is a driver for further development of territories, including in the long term", - emphasizes the Director of the Center for Smart City Research.
Among other things, from December 15, electric trains in the Central Transport Hub switched to a new schedule. Due to this, the travel time on MCD-1 and MCD-2 was reduced by five minutes.
An important event of 2024 for the MCC was the launch of the fourth model of electric train "Ivolga" with new mask design, blackberry color of the interior, as well as three doors in all cars except for the head car. Thanks to this change, the time of boarding and disembarkation of passengers has been reduced by almost a third.
"Ivolga 4.0", like its predecessor, can reach speeds of up to 160 km / h, while maintaining a smooth ride and producing a minimum amount of noise. The cars have everything necessary for a comfortable ride: air conditioners with air disinfection function, information boards and monitors, wireless and USB charging stations for mobile devices, bicycle parking lots, where there is a socket for electric scooter, places for passengers with low mobility and parents with strollers.
The trains, which are almost entirely - 97% - made of domestic components, were developed by order of the Moscow City Government. They are produced by the Tver Carriage Works, which is part of TMH.
At the moment only Ivolga of the third and fourth models are running along MCD-3. In the coming year, these trains will fully staff the fleet of the fourth diameter.
