Short-spined spiny katana sharks born for the first time in captivity at the Primorsky Oceanarium

Five short-spined spiny cat sharks were born in the Primorsky Oceanarium, which became the first case of birth of these fish in captivity. This was reported on December 27 by the scientific and educational complex "Primorsky Oceanarium".

"The miracle happened less than a week ago, on December 18. The growth of the babies is 21 centimeters, weighing 28.5 grams. Four days after birth, they began to eat finely chopped keta, pollock, shrimp," - informed the press service in the Telegram-channel of the complex.

It is specified that short-spiny spiny sharks-catrines are difficult to keep, but thanks to the conditions created by ichthyologists, which turned out to be as close to natural as possible, the pregnancy of the shark was not two years, as in the wild, but only a year.

Earlier, on November 25, 2022, the first zebra shark and three stingrays born in captivity in Russia died in the Primorsky Oceanarium. A baby fish was born at the oceanarium in 2018.
