EMERCOM of Russia is an example of selfless labor, dedication and unwavering commitment to the safety and protection of Russians. This was announced by the head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry Alexander Kurenkov in his video congratulations to the Day of the Rescuer on December 27.

"This year we managed to save almost 58 thousand people, evacuate another 374 thousand. This is more than a year earlier due to large-scale spring floods and evacuation of residents from Kursk and Belgorod regions," Kurenkov said.

According to him, this year it was possible to reduce the number of emergencies, fires and accidents on the water. The forces and means of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia eliminated more than 260 emergencies of different scales, their number decreased by a quarter compared to the previous year.

The Minister also informed that during the year more than 325 thousand natural and man-made fires were extinguished, rescuers helped victims in more than 4.2 thousand incidents in water areas and almost 93 thousand car accidents, pyrotechnics of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia neutralized more than 81 thousand explosive objects, and mountain rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia eliminated 39 accidents at mining enterprises.

He recalled that along with responding to emergencies and fires, the Russian Emergencies Ministry continues to carry out tasks to protect and assist civilians in border regions, which are subjected to constant shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

Kurenkov added that this year the Russian Emergencies Ministry also took an active part in emergency humanitarian response activities outside Russia. 18 international humanitarian operations were conducted and 51 joint projects were implemented as part of cooperation with international organizations.

"Aircraft of the Russian Emergencies Ministry delivered humanitarian cargoes, helped to extinguish natural fires. 386 people who were forced to leave the territories of the Gaza Strip and the Lebanese Republic were evacuated," he emphasized.

Kurenkov also reminded that this year the Russian Emergencies Ministry represents the country in the IOGO Executive Committee and in BRICS.

"Next year the agency will celebrate its 35th anniversary. All this time the Russian Emergencies Ministry is an example of selfless labor, dedication and unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of Russians," concluded the head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

On this day, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated veterans and personnel of the Emergencies Ministry on the Day of the Rescuer. He noted that in recent years much has been done to organize the work of EMERCOM units in the historic Russian regions of Donbass and Novorossiya.

Then also employees of the Emergencies Ministry told about the work in the areas close to the contact line. Emergencies Ministry employees have to perform the most difficult tasks: to extinguish fires, to get people out from under the rubble.

Every year on December 27, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other services involved in the prevention and elimination of emergency situations celebrate their professional holiday in Russia. In 2024, it falls on Friday. Rescuers' Day was established in 1995 by a decree of the Russian President in honor of the establishment of the Russian Rescue Corps (RRC) on December 27, 1990. It was the predecessor of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), which was officially established in 1994.
