Two families with children have returned to Russia from Syria. This was reported on December 26 in her Telegram-channel by Maria Lvova-Belova, Presidential Ombudsperson for Children's Rights.

"Today the Russian Defense Ministry's flight landed in the Moscow region and delivered our compatriots to their homeland. Both families with children - a mom with an infant, as well as a dad, mom, grandpa and three children. We are glad that everything ended safely," - wrote the ombudsman.

She also explained that earlier the agency received appeals for assistance in the return of families from the Syrian Arab Republic to Russia.

In addition, Lvova-Belova expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the Russian Foreign Ministry, as well as the Russian Embassy in Syria and the Russian Defense Ministry.

Earlier, on December 10, Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova reported on the search for solutions to evacuate Russians with children from Syria. Relevant appeals for assistance with evacuation were sent to the office of the children's ombudsman.

On December 8, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left the post of head of state and left the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully.

On the same day, the national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces of Syria announced the work on the formation of a transitional authority. In turn, Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that most of the ministers of the Syrian government remain in Damascus, and he himself is ready to cooperate with any elected leadership.

Against this backdrop, the IDF announced the deployment of forces along the Syrian border to ensure the safety of communities in the Golan Heights and Israeli citizens. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the demarcation agreement with Syria has been terminated due to the withdrawal of Syrian troops.

The situation in Syria escalated following a major attack by militias in Aleppo and Idlib that began on November 28 and led to a Syrian army response against the militants.
