The law stipulates liability for illegal cutting of Christmas trees. Ivan Sovetnikov, head of the Federal Forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz), told Izvestia in an interview.
For one fir tree cut down in the forest the violator faces a fine of up to 5 thousand rubles with confiscation of the fir tree, reminded the head of Rosleskhoz.
"For a large volume of illegal felling provides for liability up to criminal responsibility. That is, they can go to jail. So once again I remind you not to illegally harvest Christmas trees," he said
Traditionally, before the New Year holidays, forest protection officers increase patrolling of forest areas, reminded Sovetnikov.
"Every day specialists go to the forest areas, where there have already been cases of illegal felling of trees. In addition, we strengthen the protection of young trees, grown coniferous trees", - he emphasized.
The head of Rosleskhoz recommended to go to the Christmas tree bazaar to get a New Year's tree. Also, according to him, in some regions, including the Moscow region, there is a practice when you can come to the nursery yourself or with your family, sign a sales contract, choose a Christmas tree and harvest it.
