The Peruvian government has declared an environmental emergency in the northern coastal region of the country, where the state oil company Petroperu allowed an oil spill into the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Reuters wrote on December 26.

"A vessel conducting pre-shipment maneuvers caused a spill at the terminal of a Peruvian oil refinery in the province of Talara in northern Peru," the statement said.

In a preliminary report, Peru's environmental watchdog organization (OEFA) said the pollution affected about 10,000 square meters of seawater surface.

Peru's Environment Ministry said at least seven beaches were affected by the pollution, as well as wildlife. The Prosecutor's Office of Peru launched an investigation into the oil company Petroperu.

Earlier, on December 15, it became known that the tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait due to bad weather. As a result of the incident there was a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from the vessels. One person died.

On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group has been set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the accident with tankers. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the situation with the elimination of the consequences of the fuel spill in the Black Sea is under the attention of the head of state.

On December 25, the regional emergency regime was introduced in Kuban due to the release of oil products. According to experts' forecasts, most of the fuel oil should have remained at the bottom of the Black Sea, but due to unfavorable weather conditions it rises to the surface and ends up on the beach.
