Germany should restore relations with Russia to save its economy. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko told reporters on December 26 on the margins of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) summit.

"Let them buy [gas], pay money to Russia and restore normal relations. Not in the name of Russia - Russia will manage without them, and so will we. Let them restore in the name of their German economy," said the Belarusian leader. His words are quoted by BelTA agency.

In addition, Lukashenko said he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before.

"As far as I know. I asked Vladimir Vladimirovich yesterday whether the Russians are ready to sell. He says, 'We have always been ready,'" he said.

Earlier, on December 24, Russian ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev said in an interview with Izvestia that the relations between Russia and Germany were destroyed on Berlin's initiative, which is deeply regrettable.

Prior to that, on December 18, Bundestag deputy from Sarah Wagenknecht's Union party Klaus Ernst called for negotiations with Russia on gas supplies to Germany through the remaining section of Nord Stream. According to him, Berlin should not adjust its political course to the policy of Washington, which is responsible for the crisis in Germany.

On December 16, the Bloomberg agency reported that the German economy is stagnating and approaching the point of no return. According to analysts, the country is experiencing an energy crisis, and each household loses about €2.5 thousand a year.

On November 25, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel pointed out that the rejection of Russian gas had caused significant damage to German business and industry.
