Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian plans to pay an official visit to Moscow on January 17. This was announced by Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali on December 26.

Also, a high-ranking source in the government of the Islamic Republic informed Izvestia about the planned visit earlier.

During the meeting, the Iranian leader and Russian President Vladimir Putin are to sign a cooperation agreement between Tehran and Moscow.

"During this visit, Pezeshkian and Putin will sign a cooperation agreement between the two countries," the embassy's Telegram channel quoted the diplomat as saying.

He also noted that the agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Iranian territory will be realized in the near future.

Back in June, the Russian corporation Gazprom and the National Iranian Gas Company signed a strategic memorandum on working out the organization of Russian gas supplies to Iran.

Earlier, on December 23, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev at a meeting with the Iranian president handed him an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to pay an official visit to Russia "in the first days of 2025".

In late October, the Russian and Iranian presidents met at the BRICS summit in Kazan. Putin said at the time that ties between the states were on the rise and were friendly, and that the Islamic republic's president's first trip to Russia since taking office was symbolic. At their previous meeting in the same month, the Russian leader said he was also expecting Pezeshkian to pay an official visit to Russia.
