Putin signs decree on social benefits for children of prisoners of war or missing persons

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on monthly payments to children of military personnel captured or missing, including during their participation in a special military operation (SMO). The corresponding document was published on December 26 on the Internet portal of official publication of legal acts.

"To establish a monthly social payment to children of servicemen captured or missing during participation in a special military operation or in the performance of tasks in the territories of the counter-terrorist operation or special tasks in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic," the document said.

The amount of payment will be equal to the subsistence minimum for children, established in the region of their residence.

Putin instructed the Defense Ministryon December 19 during the "Results of the Year" tospeed up the decision on payments to the families of the captured participants of the military operation. At the same time, he said that if the special operation fighters were moved to Kursk region, where the regime of counter-terrorist operation (KTO) is still in place, they should receive payments in full.

Prior to that, on November 14, Putin increased the size of a one-time payment to the participants of the special operation when injured resulting in disability to 4 million rubles. Thus, the military, who received 3 million rubles for a severe injury, will receive an additional 1 million rubles after the establishment of disability.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian President on February 24, 2022, is still ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
