We should expect a slight decline in new car sales due to the increase in the utilization fee from January 1, 2025 and the weakening of the ruble. The price increase will be up to 20%, depending on the class of foreign cars imported into the country. The most noticeable will be the increase in the cost of budget cars. This was reported on December 30 by Anastasia Baibarosha, the head of the direction for work with representative offices of passenger cars of GC "Alfa-Leasing".

"The cost of domestic cars will be affected only by the ruble exchange rate, as about half of them are made of foreign materials and components. Therefore, the price may increase by 8-10," she noted.

According to her, as a result, a decrease in sales of new cars is predicted, but it will not be catastrophic - the drop in demand is likely to be at the level of 10-15%," - said the expert.

She explained that the premium segment may not suffer at all, and potential buyers of cars in the middle price range will switch to less expensive models and brands. Customers, who were interested and available budget segment, will temporarily switch to cars with mileage.

"Because of the increase in demand, used car prices will go up, with spikes in high seasons. The used car market itself may reach record sales figures. The trend is clear: in 2023, 5.69 million cars were resold (+17% to 2022), and in the first 11 months of 2024 - already 5.51 million (+4.6% to the sales figures for the first 11 months of 2023). At the end of 2024, about 6 million used cars will be sold, and in 2025 the figure may approach the mark of 6.5 million resold cars", - concluded Baybarosha.

In December, Alexei Tuzov, an independent transportation industry expert, told Izvestia that demand for new cars in early 2025 may decrease by 10-20%, while car prices are expected to increase by 10-15%.
