A criminal case has been opened in St. Petersburg against the driver of Mercedes, who hit a woman at a crosswalk in the city center on Engels Avenue and then fled in an unknown direction. This was reported on December 26 in the press service of the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.

"A criminal case under part 4 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of road traffic and operation of vehicles, causing the death of a person by negligence") has been initiated against the man," - noted in the Telegram-channel of the department.

As a result of the accident, a 51-year-old woman received injuries incompatible with life. However, the guilty driver did not report the incident to the relevant authorities and fled the scene of the accident.

The perpetrator of the accident may face imprisonment for a term of 5 to 12 years.

On the same day it became known that a 51-year-old woman, who was hit by a car on Engels Avenue, died of severe injuries in a hospital in St. Petersburg. Her identity has been established.
