Before the crash of the plane of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) in Aktau, the crew made two attempts to land the aircraft on the runway of the city airfield. This was reported by the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev on December 26.

"The crew made two attempts to approach the GDP of the Aktau airfield, during which chaotic changes in the height of the vessel were observed. It deviated towards the coastline," Karabayev said at a briefing. His words are quoted by Kazinform agency in Telegram-channel.

According to him, communication with the vessel was lost at 11:28 (9:28 Moscow time) and the plane went down. The rescue service of Aktau airport was the first to arrive at the scene of the tragedy, its workers immediately began evacuation of passengers, the minister said.

In addition, he said that the crashed airplane was flying with faulty control systems.

Also at the site of the airplane crash in Kazakhstan's Aktau both black boxes were found.

A passenger plane of AZAL Airlines, heading on the route Baku - Grozny, crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau on December 25. After the crash, the plane caught fire. Preliminary, the cause of the fall of the airplane could be a collision with a flock of birds. After the crash, a criminal case was opened.

As a result of the crash, 38 people were killed. On board, according to the list of AZAL, there were 62 passengers and five crew members. According to the latest data, seven Russians died, nine survived and were hospitalized, later a special Russian Emergencies Ministry airplane took them to Moscow. AZAL suspended flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala until the investigation is completed.
