Federal emergency regime introduced in Krasnodar region after tanker crash

A federal emergency regime has been introduced in the Krasnodar region due to the situation in the Kerch Strait. This was reported to journalists on December 26 in the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

"Emergency situation of a federal nature introduced", - reported in the Department told reporters after the meeting of the head of the Ministry of emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov held in Anapa.

It is specified that it was collected about 30 thousand tons of contaminated sand and soil, also removed to landfills more than 23 thousand tons. In the Kerch Strait specialists have surveyed 295 square kilometers of water area. More than 29 thousand square kilometers of water area was also treated.

Later, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the decision was made by a government commission headed by the head of the agency.

In his opening speech, Kurenkov emphasized that the situation is controlled and work is being done in many areas.

"Today we and the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov checked the progress of liquidation of pollution of the coastline in the Anapa district. The front line of work is large. Collection and loading of contaminated soil continues. Divisions of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, Morspassluzhba, territorial subsystems of RSChS, as well as volunteers are involved", - said Kurenkov.

In addition, during the event, detailed reports on the situation in the region were heard. Particular attention was paid to the assessment of possible consequences of the emergency, approximate timing of work on their elimination, sufficiency of the grouping, as well as preliminary damage.

Earlier in the day, Kurenkov arrived in Anapa to monitor the progress of liquidation of the fuel oil spill. In the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations also reported that since the beginning of work in the Krasnodar region collected and removed more than 23.5 thousand tons of contaminated soil. More than 4.3 thousand people and 400 units of equipment were involved in the work.

The Governor of the Krasnodar Region Veniamin Kondratyev appealed to the Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation with a request for federal assistance to clean up the oil spill on the coast of the region.

Tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15 due to bad weather. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from the vessels. One person died.

On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group has been set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the accident with tankers. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the situation with the elimination of the consequences of the fuel spill in the Black Sea is under the attention of the head of state.

On December 25, a regional emergency regime was introduced in Kuban due to the release of oil products.
