Putin called improving demography a priority national goal


Improving the demographic situation, supporting the birth rate and large families, and increasing the well-being of families is a priority national goal. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 26.
According to him, a lot of efforts have been made this year to strengthen the public authority and high status of the family.
"This important, demanded work to preserve and develop family foundations, the culture of motherhood and fatherhood must necessarily continue and special attention should be paid to families with many children," the president said during the summing up of the Year of the Family "The Year of the Family. Continuation: roads to the future - with love along the way".
The Russian leader also noted that in a family environment a child's personality and outlook are formed, important moral guidelines are laid down, such as care for loved ones, love for relatives, patriotism and a sense of responsibility for the fate of their country.
In addition, Putin congratulated the participants of the event on the coming New Year, wishing them health, success and all the best.
Earlier, on December 19, Putin said that the issue of demography is one of the key issues not only for Russia, but also for many other countries. According to him, during the Soviet period, the birth rate was 2%, while now it has fallen to 1.41%. He noted the need to raise this figure to 2.1%.
In July, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted during a meeting with participants of the Festival of New Media that the average birth rate in Russia is at 1.4%. He emphasized that this is comparable to European countries and Japan, and said that the government is doing a great job and implementing a whole set of measures to improve the situation.
