Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries reached consensus on a number of issues at a meeting on December 26. On the remaining aspects, they will continue to work further.

"We worked in a narrow composition, discussed current issues, achieved the necessary consensus on those issues that were adopted, on some agreed to continue our work," - said the head of state during the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in a narrow composition.

Putin specified that during the continuation of negotiations the leader of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel should join the meeting via videoconference. After the message will be made by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. It will concern the transition of the EAEU presidency to his republic.

Earlier on December 26, Putin said that the EAEU has established itself as one of the self-sufficient and independent centers of the world. During a narrow-group meeting at the Igora resort in the Leningrad Region, the head of state pointed out that the EAEU activities help expand trade and deepen cooperation ties, build up business contacts and investment exchanges.

On the same day, the Telegram channel of the Belarusian leader "Pool One" reported that Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko had a one-on-one conversation for about 1.5 hours. The informal summit of CIS leaders and meetings of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council kicked off a day earlier. Russian President arrived there the same day.

Before that, on December 17, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin named the main directions of the EAEU. They include providing the common market of the union with basic goods and resources, strengthening the external relations of the member states, forming a common space of cooperation in technological development, forming a common market of the states, supporting their transport interconnectivity.

The EAEU is an international organization of regional economic integration with international legal personality. It includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. One of the main advantages of the organization is a common labor market.
