Belgian AFU mercenary sentenced in absentia in Russia to six years in prison

A Moscow city court has sentenced Belgian mercenary Jetmir Hussein in absentia to six years in prison for taking part in the conflict in Ukraine on Kiev's side. About it on Thursday, December 26, reported in the capital prosecutor's office.
"Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor of the Moscow City Prosecutor's Office, 25-year-old mercenary from Belgium Jetmir Hussein was sentenced in absentia to six years' imprisonment in a general regime colony. He was found guilty under part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict")", - stated in the Telegram-channel of the department.
It is established that in March 2022 Hussein came to Lviv region and joined the international legion to participate in hostilities against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and representatives of the security forces of the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics for financial remuneration.
The criminal case was considered in the absence of the defendant, who is on an international wanted list. A decision was made to arrest him in absentia.
Earlier in the day, a court in the DNR sentenced in absentia to 13 years in a strict regime colony a 31-year-old mercenary from the United States, who took part in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) since 2017, including during the SWO. For all this time, the American received more than 12.8 million rubles in remuneration.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which the Russian Federation announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
