Vetcity Clinic zoopsychologist Polina Parfentieva spoke on December 26 about how to reduce stress in your pet during holiday fireworks.

"Try to move the main part of walking with dogs to the daylight hours, and the evening walk can be shortened. Do not go far from home and think out in advance your route and places of safety, where you can take cover in case of fireworks, for example, in the entrance or store," - quotes her words "Gazeta.Ru".

Parfentieva recommends not to take dogs to fireworks and crowded places, as it can cause them severe stress and lead to escape. It is important to check the ammunition, use several leashes and a regular leash instead of a tape measure, as well as to refuse to strike. It is necessary that the pet always has a keychain with an address, and for reliability you can chip the animal, which will make it easier to find in case of loss.

The expert noted that during the fireworks it is important to take responsibility for the animal, giving it clear instructions and calmly taking it away from the noisy place. It is not necessary to forcefully hug the dog, as this will increase its fear, but a small one can be taken in your arms for safety. Support with words is important and if the pet is barking out of fear, there is no need to restrain it as this helps to release the tension.

Pets will help with fright during fireworks to cope with a secluded place, said the zoopsychologist. You should curtain the windows, turn on white noise and provide access to water. You can also create a blanket house for the pet. It is important not to lock or pull pets out of such places, but, on the contrary, distract them with games.

It is specified, if the animal is very much afraid of loud sounds and can not come away from the fright for a long time, then it is better to consult with doctors who will help to pick up sedatives or find another correct approach.

Earlier, on December 17, veterinarians said that to ensure the safety of pets during the holidays should: leave the bottom rows empty when decorating the tree, refuse to feed the pet food from the holiday table and hold them more tightly by the leash during walks.
