Three spotted hyenas were brought to the Moscow Zoo


Three young spotted hyenas have settled in the Moscow Zoo. This was reported on Thursday, December 26, by Svetlana Akulova, Director General of the Moscow Zoo, in the Telegram channel of the institution.
According to her, they are two males and a female, after quarantine they appeared at the exposition on the "Island of Beasts" on the new territory.
"All hyenas are young individuals. They have adapted in their enclosure, walk a lot and have already started digging diggings. This is their natural behavior, as hyenas are burrowing animals," Akulova was quoted as saying by the Moscow city news agency .
Spotted hyenas previously lived in the Moscow Zoo from 1963 to 1978. This is the largest and strongest species of hyenas. They live in southern and eastern Africa. In length, these animals can reach 1.5 meters with a shoulder height of about 90 cm. An adult can weigh between 40 and 60 kg.
In the International Red Data Book, spotted hyenas are listed as "least concern", but are rarely kept in zoos. Their life expectancy is up to 25-30 years, specifies IA Regnum.
