Krasnodar Region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said on December 26 that he had asked the head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Alexander Kurenkov, for federal assistance to clean up the consequences of a fuel oil spill resulting from a tanker wreck in the Black Sea.

That day he visited the sea coast together with Kurenkov and the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov and talked to the Emergencies Ministry employees who are engaged in liquidation of the consequences of the oil spill.

According to the head of the Krasnodar region, more than 30 thousand tons of contaminated soil has already been collected on the coast, but according to preliminary calculations, its volume may increase to 200 thousand tons.

"Four specialized enterprises take sand with oil products for processing. They work in daily mode at maximum capacity, but it will take them a long time to utilize the predicted volume of contaminated soil," Kondratyev wrote in his Telegram channel.

He reminded that the authorities of the Krasnodar region are facing the task of preserving the resort area of the region, writes "Gazeta.Ru".

On this day, Kurenkov arrived in Anapa to monitor the progress of the liquidation of the fuel oil spill. The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that since the beginning of the work in the Krasnodar region collected and removed more than 23.5 thousand tons of contaminated soil. More than 4.3 thousand people and 400 units of equipment were involved in the work.

The tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15 due to bad weather. As a result of the incident there was a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels. It was specified that one person died.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin created a working group to coordinate the work to eliminate the consequences of the accident with the tankers. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the situation with the elimination of the consequences of the fuel spill in the Black Sea is under the attention of the Russian President.

On December 25, a regional emergency regime was introduced in Kuban due to the release of oil products. According to experts' forecasts, most of the fuel oil should have remained at the bottom of the Black Sea, but due to unfavorable weather conditions it rises to the surface and ends up on the beach.
