An expert has spoken about the health dangers of floor mats

Maria Zolotareva, a senior lecturer at the Department of Biotechnology and Industrial Pharmacy of RTU MIREA, told on December 26 what health hazards door mats can carry.

"One of the main dangers is the possibility of accumulation of bacteria and mold fungi. If the mat is rarely cleaned, it turns into a favorable place for the development of microorganisms. For example, mold fungi can actively multiply in humid conditions - and mats are often damp, especially in the fall and winter," Gazeta.Ru quoted her as saying.

She noted that mold can cause an allergic reaction, and the dirt accumulated on the mats - contain pathogenic microorganisms for pets.

Zolotareva recommends choosing synthetic mats, as they are less prone to rapid wear and tear than natural ones. It is also necessary to clean mats regularly, especially with a long pile, using suitable means. After wet cleaning, they should be fully treated with antiseptics to prevent microorganisms from multiplying.

Earlier, on December 21, candidate of medical sciences, immunologist-allergologist Nadezhda Logina said that artificial Christmas trees and Christmas toys must necessarily be washed and dried before decorating rooms with them, because during the year they accumulate a lot of dust and other things.
