Shipowner of Volgoneft-212 fined for labor law violations

The shipowner of the tanker Volgoneft-212, which was involved in an accident that resulted in a spill of oil products in the Black Sea, was fined for violations of labor laws. This was reported by the State Labor Inspectorate in the Perm region on December 26.

"In the course of the investigation established violations of labor legislation, expressed in the failure to conduct for the crew of the tanker training in labor protection, training in first aid to victims," - cited the statement of the press service on the website of the agency.

It is specified that LLC "Kama Shipping" was brought to administrative responsibility. The State Labor Inspectorate added that at the same time the Perm Transport Prosecutor's Office is working, which "conducts a supervisory action".

The inspection noted that during the investigation of the group accident, which occurred with the crew of the Volgoneft-212, a report was drawn up on the death of the motorist of Kama Shipping LLC. According to the decision, the family members of the deceased worker will receive an insurance payment of 2 million rubles.

The tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15 due to bad weather. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels. It was specified that one person died.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, created a working group to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the accident with tankers in the Kerch Strait. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the situation with the elimination of the consequences of the fuel spill in the Black Sea is under the attention of the head of state. He added that the accident was an environmental disaster and additional resources would be needed to eliminate the consequences.

December 26, the head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov said that the authorities are ready to declare a federal emergency regime. According to experts' forecasts, most of the fuel oil should have remained at the bottom of the Black Sea, but due to unfavorable weather conditions it rises to the surface and ends up on the beach. At that time it was reported that more than 256 square kilometers of water area had already been surveyed, 25 tons of oil-water slop had been collected and 27.9 thousand square meters had been treated with sorbent.
