Residents of Western European countries have become less likely to support Ukraine "until the end of the war" over the past year. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on December 26 with reference to the results of a YouGov poll.
In the survey, citizens of Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Denmark chose between the options of supporting Ukraine, even if the conflict lasts longer, and the end of hostilities through negotiations, even if Kiev has to give up part of the territory.
In all seven countries, the willingness to support Ukraine dropped significantly from February to December. A high percentage of supporters of the Kiev regime remains in Sweden, Denmark and the UK (50%, 40% and 36% respectively). At the same time, only 28% of Germans, 25% of Spaniards, 23% of French and 15% of Italians were in favor of helping Kiev to the end.
At the same time, the number of supporters of a peaceful settlement increased everywhere - 55% of respondents in Italy, 46% in Spain, 45% in Germany and 43% in France are in favor of this scenario. In Denmark, this idea was supported by 34% of respondents, in the UK - 32%, and in Sweden - 24%.
It is noted that at the moment it is not clear whether such statistics reflects a decline in interest in Ukraine or fatigue from the conflict.
The poll was conducted from December 3 to 18. More than 1 thousand people participated in it in each of the countries.
Earlier, on December 6, German TV channel ZDF reported that about 52% of German citizens surveyed believe it is necessary to convince Ukraine to give up the territories liberated by the Russian Federation. At the same time, 34% of respondents support the continuation of Kiev's military operations with the support of Western allies.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
