Auto expert told about the ways to save the car in severe cold weather

In order to properly prepare a car for a serious frost, it is necessary to proceed from the main problems that occur with the car in the coldest period, Sergey Ponomarev, technical trainer of the international network of car services FIT SERVICE, told Izvestia on December 27. He gave some advice to motorists.
"Most often in the cold, cars do not start, various leaks occur, all unattended nodes, minor problems of any system escalate and turn into serious malfunctions. Therefore, the main recommendation, if according to the weather forecast serious frosts are coming to the city, is to visit the service station in advance, to carry out diagnostics and service the car," he explained.
According to him, cracks on the silent-blocks at extreme cold quickly turn into serious damage: the part is completely out of order. Small sweating can grow into serious leaks. And in the summer, in the warm season, all these moments could not even be considered a malfunction.
"An important recommendation - when visiting a service station in the cold, it is important to let the car warm up. At reputable, certified stations, as a rule, the rules for accepting cars in frost are observed, but at small "garage" not always. Therefore, make sure that the diagnostics and repair works are not started "on cold", about 30 minutes the car should just stand in a warm box. Otherwise, for example, the usual replacement of a bulb in a frozen lamp will turn into the need to replace the entire lamp, "- explained Ponomarev.
The most common problem in freezing weather is a discharged battery. At temperatures below -25 degrees, the battery will not only accelerated discharge, but also take not as much charge as necessary for quiet operation of the car.
"If only short trips are made on the car, a battery problem in the cold is especially likely. The battery (accumulator battery. - Ed.) during such trips does not have time to charge. I recommend you to make longer trips in winter, as well as to service and change the battery in time. The old 'grandfather's' method of taking the battery home works in frosts," the expert added.
Malfunctions related to technical fluids are also common during severe sub-zero temperatures. First of all, breakdowns are associated with leaks of oil, antifreeze or power steering fluid. Leaks occur in problem areas of the car, where a trigger such as sudden temperature changes or pressure increase was needed for the situation to manifest itself. Avoid such problems can only be avoided by strict adherence to the intervals for the replacement of tehjodkosti and regular checks at the service station, the expert added.
Earlier, on December 20, experts of the service "SberAuto" told "Izvestia" that not all modern systems in cars are equally useful on the roads around the world. Speaking about the options that can be abandoned by motorists in the Russian Federation, the experts noted the parking autopilot. According to them, this system does not always cope with narrow yards and non-standard parking spaces, which abound in small Russian cities. At the same time, they emphasized the value of such a function as automatic emergency braking. The system reacts independently to the danger of a collision if the driver is distracted.
