The State Duma spoke out about the possible introduction of fines for the use of VPNs

The issue of introducing fines for the use of VPN services is not discussed in the State Duma. This was stated on Thursday, December 26, by the first deputy chairman of the Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, Alexander Yushchenko.

The deputy noted that the introduction of fines for the use of VPN is technically difficult to implement. In his opinion, it is necessary to work out the mechanism, and any fines should be justified. Earlier in the day, experts assessed the chances of introducing fines for the use of VPNs. It was specified that in Russia may introduce fines for VPN use, similar to fines for traffic violations. Telecom operators will monitor the use of VPNs, transmit data to the Russian Federal Tax Service, and users will receive fines, probably small, but regular, which will actually become a fee for access to foreign resources. However, many experts called this unlikely.
