Lukashenko arrived in St. Petersburg on December 25 to participate in an informal summit of CIS leaders and a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. The same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived there.
The informal meeting of the CIS leaders is held at the Igora resort complex in the Leningrad region. The summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will be held there on December 26.
Earlier, October 1, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the Union State is the locomotive of integration within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), because Moscow and Minsk are working on EAEU proposals to strengthen the free promotion of goods, services and labor in a joint format. Later, he called the provision of the EAEU common market with key goods and resources one of the five main areas of work of the organization. Also, according to him, ensuring transport interconnectivity of the states, formation of a common financial market and strengthening the external relations of the member states are of no small importance.
The EAEU is an international organization of regional economic integration with international legal personality. It includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. One of the main advantages of the organization is a common labor market.
