Ex-head of the Russian Water Polo Federation Vlasenko sentenced to seven years in prison

Former president of the Russian Water Polo Federation Alexei Vlasenko was sentenced to seven years in a general regime colony in a fraud case. This was reported by the Izvestia correspondent from the courtroom on December 26.

Vlasenko entered the executive committee of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) in May 2018.

He was arrested in March 2021 in a case of fraud for 450 million rubles. The case against him was brought under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on a particularly large scale"), under this article the sports functionary faced up to 10 years in prison. It was specified that the charges against him were not related to Vlasenko's work in the Russian Water Polo Federation, the Russian Federation of Diving and the Federation of Synchronized Swimming.
