Prevention of varicose veins is an important aspect in reducing the likelihood of this disease, especially for people exposed to certain factors. They should avoid prolonged static loads. Sergey Tarabarin, MD, professor, leading surgeon of JSC "Medicine" (Clinic of Academician Roitberg), told Izvestia on December 27 more about prevention of varicose veins treatment.

"One important aspect is to avoid prolonged static loads, such as prolonged standing or sitting. If such conditions are unavoidable, compression knitwear, including elastic stockings, bandages or socks, should be used," Tarabarin explained.

According to him, an important factor in prevention is controlling body weight, as excess weight increases the load on leg vessels, which contributes to the development of varicose veins. To prevent this, one should maintain a normal weight by following a balanced diet and regular physical activity.

In addition, special attention should be paid to women during pregnancy - this is one of the risk factors for varicose veins.

"If close relatives have had cases of varicose veins, the risk of its development increases. In such cases, you should be especially careful to monitor the condition of the veins, as well as regular check-ups with specialists," - summarized Tarabarin.

Earlier, on December 18, a phlebologist, vascular surgeon "INVITRO North-West" Konstantin Budanov told "Izvestia" about the difference between varicose veins and thrombosis, as well as the prevention of these diseases. According to him, the causes of the diseases overlap in many ways, including heredity, lack of physical activity, high-calorie diet, overweight, as well as excessive smoking and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
