In the Transbaikal Territory, the perpetrator of a forest fire was charged 40.6 million rubles. This is reported by IA ChitaMedia with reference to the information of the Tungokochensky district court.

According to the case file, a 48-year-old resident of the village of Ust-Karenga set a fire as a result of careless handling of fire. The fire spread through the natural area, the damage was estimated at 40.66 million rubles.

The prosecutor's office appealed to the court with a demand to recover the full amount of the damage caused from the perpetrator of the fire. The court satisfied the claim. The decision has not entered into legal force.

Earlier it was reported that from 2025 in Transbaikalia will be prohibited cutting of burned wood. Previously, people who had concluded a contract for the purchase and sale of forest plantations for their own needs could cut down trees killed by fire.
