FSB seized wild birds from the Red Book of Russia illegally harvested in Transbaikalia

Employees of the Border Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Transbaikal Territory stopped the circulation of illegally harvested wild birds, listed in the Red Book of Russia. This was reported by the press service of the agency on December 26.

During the inspection of vehicles of Chita residents, three individuals of saker falcon and gyrfalcon were found and seized. The birds were in a dehydrated state.

"According to the assessment of specialists-ornithologists, the condition of rare birds is satisfactory, after additional examination by veterinarians, they are placed in the zoo of the city of Chita", - stated in the message of the Department.

On the fact of unlawful activity initiated a criminal case under Part 1 of Art. 258.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal extraction and trafficking of especially valuable wild animals and aquatic biological resources belonging to species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and (or) protected by international treaties of the Russian Federation").

Earlier, on December 12, employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia in Astrakhan managed to identify and seize 2.6 tons of illegally caught fish of sturgeon species, thus preventing criminal trafficking of valuable aquatic bioresources. The sturgeon carcasses were stored in outbuildings and production facilities by three local residents. It is noted that the fish lacked documents confirming the legality of its origin.

A criminal case is being investigated under part 3 of article 258.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal extraction and turnover of especially valuable wild animals and aquatic biological resources belonging to species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and (or) protected by international treaties of the Russian Federation").
