Emergency regime of the federal scale will be declared due to the spillage of oil products after the accident with tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" in the Kerch Strait. This was announced on December 26 by the head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov on air of the TV channel "Crimea 24".

"We talked yesterday with all colleagues, this situation by decision of the President of Russia[Vladimir Putin] will be assigned the status of federal emergency," - said Aksyonov.

He added that the head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Alexander Kurenkov, will convene an emergency commission, which will make the appropriate decision.

Also, the head of Crimea said that federal funds will be allocated to eliminate the consequences of the fuel oil spill.

Tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" due to bad weather crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15. As a result of the incident there was a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels. It was specified that one person died.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, created a working group to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the accident with tankers in the Kerch Strait.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the situation with the elimination of the consequences of the fuel spill in the Black Sea is under the attention of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Peskov called the incident an environmental disaster and noted that additional resources would be needed to eliminate the consequences.

Later, the Kuban introduced a regional state of emergency due to the release of oil products. According to experts' forecasts, most of the fuel oil should have remained at the bottom of the Black Sea, but due to unfavorable weather conditions it rises to the surface and ends up on the beach. At that time it was reported that more than 256 square kilometers of water area had already been surveyed, 25 tons of oil-water slop had been collected and 27.9 thousand square meters had been treated with sorbent.
