The Izvestia Press Center discusses events in the Middle East. Broadcast


On December 27, the press center of Izvestia IEC is hosting a roundtable discussion on "The Middle East: 2024 Outcomes".
Participants:
- Andrei Kortunov, research director of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC);
- Vasily Kuznetsov, Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, RIAC member;
- Viktor Smirnov, Head of the Department of Israel and Jewish Communities at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia;
- Vladimir Sazhin, Senior Researcher at the Center for Near and Middle East Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
- Ivan Bocharov, RIAC Program Coordinator.
Among the most significant events of 2024 are the exchange of strikes between Israel and Iran, operations by Israeli security forces in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, presidential elections in Iran, and the overthrow of the government of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
The participants discuss the main outcomes of 2024 for the countries of the Middle East region, the role of extra-regional players, and possible trajectories of the situation in the Middle East in 2025.
The roundtable will feature a pre-presentation of the RIAC report "Extra-regional Actors in the Middle East".
