Head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry Alexander Kurenkov arrived in Anapa to monitor the progress of emergency response. This was reported in the Ministry on December 26.
During his visit, Kurenkov will assess the organization and implementation of measures to eliminate the consequences of the tanker crash in the Kerch Strait. He will also inspect the sites of work on cleaning the coastline from oil products and hold a meeting of the government commission.
"Currently, work on the collection and removal of soil contaminated with fuel oil is being carried out on five main sites with a total length of 54 km," - stated in the message of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.
According to the agency, since the beginning of work in the Krasnodar region collected and removed more than 23.5 thousand tons of contaminated soil. The work involved more than 4.3 thousand people and 400 units of equipment.
Earlier, on December 25, the Kuban introduced a regional emergency regime due to the release of oil products. According to the Governor of the Krasnodar region Veniamin Kondratyev, the release of oil products on the coast of Anapa and Temryuksky district continues. According to experts' forecasts, most of the fuel oil should have remained at the bottom of the Black Sea, but due to unfavorable weather conditions fuel oil rises to the surface and ends up on the beach.
Tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15 due to bad weather. As a result of the incident there was a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels. It was specified that one person died.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin created a working group to coordinate the work to eliminate the consequences of the accident with tankers in the Kerch Strait.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the situation with the elimination of the consequences of the fuel spill in the Black Sea is under the attention of the Russian president. Peskov called the incident an environmental disaster and noted that additional resources would be needed to eliminate the consequences.
