Natural hazards will become more frequent, which will lead to an increase in the number of emergency situations (ES). This was reported by Russian Minister for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters Alexander Kurenkov in a conversation with TASS on December 26.

"We make forecasts on the basis of Rosgidromet data. Specialists annually state an increase in the number of dangerous weather phenomena and attribute this to climate change. In turn, this can lead to an increase in the number of emergencies," - said the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to him, abnormally high or low temperatures, heavy downpours, winds, hail, floods and droughts can be noticed more and more.

According to Kurenkov, all services, which are part of the Unified System of Prevention and Elimination of Emergency Situations, need to carry out preventive measures to reduce the consequences of natural disasters, such as floods.

The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said that this year it became possible to use the dredged bottom soil in case of threat or occurrence of emergencies, which allowed to restore the capacity of river channels without waiting for the deterioration of the situation.

Earlier, November 30, Alexander Kurenkov said that in the cold season, especially in winter, avalanche danger increases significantly in mountainous areas. As the Minister noted, the danger of avalanches affects dozens of regions, including mountainous areas of the Far East, the North Caucasus, Siberia and the Murmansk region.
