Apple is removing VPN and media applications from the App Store for the Russian audience. On December 25, the company responded to a request from Reporters Without Borders (RSF) that the corporation's business in the Russian Federation would be at risk if the law was not complied with.

At the request of journalists in Apple denied the active removal of VPN services from the App Store.

"Failure to comply with legal requirements could result in Apple no longer being able to maintain the App Store or distribute content in the country. The U.S. government encourages companies to provide communications services to Russian citizens because the availability of these services best promotes democratic principles," an Apple spokesperson said.

The RSFs demand that the company "show more firmness against Russian censorship" and focus on freedom of information.

Earlier, on October 24, 197 VPN services were blocked in Russia. Sergey Khutortsev, director of the Center for Monitoring and Control of the Public Communications Network (CMC CPN) of Roskomnadzor, said that specialists are working with VPN services that violate Russian law as a means of circumventing blocking.
