Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba held a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office expired on May 20. This was reported by the Japanese TV channel NHK on Wednesday, December 25.
"Prime Minister Ishiba said that Japan has consistently and resolutely promoted assistance to Ukraine and anti-Russian sanctions and explained Japan's activities," the TV channel quoted the Foreign Ministry as saying.
In addition, he said that Japan continues to want to cooperate with Ukraine to achieve a just and lasting peace as soon as possible. Zelensky, in turn, thanked the Japanese Prime Minister for his help.
Earlier, on November 16, Japan's foreign minister came to Ukraine on an unannounced visit. This is Iwai's first trip to Ukraine after his appointment as Japan's foreign minister on October 1.
