Russian residents will be able to see the Black Moon on New Year's Day

Residents of Russia on December 31 will be able to observe the astronomical phenomenon of the Black Moon, or the second new moon, when the Earth's satellite will completely disappear from view. It will be possible to see the process only with the help of special equipment. This is reported on December 25 by the press service of Novosibirsk State University (NSU).
"The difference in December this year is that the Earth's satellite will have time to enter, conditionally speaking, the fifth phase of the month, that is, December 31 will be the second new moon," - said the head of the educational astrophysical automated complex of the NSU Physics Department Alfia Nesterenko.
The university said that it is impossible to observe the new moon with the naked eye, even if you know where the satellite is at that moment.
According to Nesterenko, you can see part of the moon can only if it at this time there will be a flash from a meteorite, which happens about once an hour. In this case, you need to have patience, a telescope and a camera, constantly recording video of the place where the Moon is currently located, which is not illuminated, to wait for the right moment.
Earlier, on December 15, Russians could enjoy the last full moon of 2024 - the Cold Moon. In clear weather, it was possible to observe the fully illuminated disk of the Earth's satellite from sunset until dawn.
Before that, on November 16, Russians observed a unique astronomical phenomenon known as the Beaver Moon. In 2024, it also coincided with the super moon - a period of time when the satellite of our planet approached it at the closest possible distance.
