- The Council of Federation pointed to the possibility of making a decision on Ukraine without its participation

The decision on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict is highly likely to be taken not in Kiev but in "higher oval offices". This was stated by the vice-speaker of the Federation Council (FC), Konstantin Kosachev, on December 25.
"The whole pathos of the slogans 'Not a word about Ukraine without Ukraine' can be reduced to the fact that Kiev will simply be notified of the decisions made in higher oval offices," he told RIA Novosti.
The senator emphasized that making final decisions not in Kiev is possible because of Ukraine's "total dependence" on the West.
Kosachev also expressed the opinion that such an option could be a favorable opportunity for Ukrainian politicians to refer to the fact that they had no choice.
The politician recalled that the Russian Federation had confirmed its readiness for negotiations.
Kosachev also said that before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump no specifics from the US government on the settlement in Ukraine should not be expected, adds "Gazeta.Ru".
On the eve, First Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee Alexei Zhuravlev said that Trump talks a lot about the settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, and it is worth waiting for him to take real measures on this issue. In addition, the US has always behaved as an adversary of the Russian Federation, regardless of who led the state.
Earlier, on December 22, Trump said that he was waiting for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to start negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. The Republican added that if he were in the shoes of current US President Joe Biden, he would not have allowed such a crisis at all.
On 18 December, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that the North Atlantic Alliance's intentions to geopolitically absorb Ukraine were blocking the way to a long-term settlement of the conflict. According to him, the root of the Ukrainian crisis lies in the expansion of Washington-led NATO into the post-Soviet space.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
